MSI's New 27-Inch Monitor Offers 5K and 300 Hz WQHD Modes
The MSI MAG 271KPD7 features Dual Mode Ultra, letting users switch between 5K at 75 Hz and WQHD at 300 Hz. It uses a Rapid IPS panel with 0.5 ms response time, DisplayHDR 400, and FreeSync Premium. Available in Japan from October 1 for about $622.
The monitor's dual-mode design targets two distinct audiences within a single panel. Its 5K setting delivers 218 pixels per inch for color-critical creative work, while the 300 Hz WQHD mode prioritizes competitive gaming responsiveness. A third 24.5-inch display mode reduces the visible field for FPS and battle royale players seeking tighter focus during matches.
Connectivity is extensive, featuring dual HDMI 2.1 ports, DisplayPort 1.4a, and USB-C with DisplayPort Alt Mode and 15 W power delivery. The integrated KVM switch enables control of two separate PCs through one keyboard and mouse setup. MSI positions this release alongside its July-launched MAG 274QPF X32, which offered WQHD at 320 Hz, showing continued expansion of its dual-mode monitor lineup.
This monitor could appeal to hybrid users who split time between creative work and gaming, potentially reducing the need for two separate displays on one desk. The roughly $622 price point may make dual-mode technology more accessible to mid-range buyers, though the 75 Hz ceiling in 5K mode limits its usefulness for high-refresh creative workflows. Professionals and gamers alike could benefit from a single-device solution, but the compromises inherent in each mode may leave some users wanting more from either specification.
