MobileGamer.biz releases tool for estimating app store and webshop cuts
MobileGamer.biz has introduced a calculator to help developers estimate how much Apple, Google, or webshop providers may take from in-app purchases. The tool draws on publicly available Apple and Google documentation and factors in app store choice, location, payment handling, developer programs, and third-party provider fees. It is meant as a rough guide, and the article notes that alternative payment routes and special developer programs can bring additional costs and operational work.
MobileGamer.biz has published a commission calculator, built with Claude, to help developers estimate what Apple, Google, or webshop and payment providers might deduct from in-app purchases. It uses official Apple and Google documentation and accounts for app store, region, on- or off-store payment handling, developer program participation, and third-party fees.
The outlet cautions that outputs are estimates. Using alternative payment providers, alternative app stores, or bespoke developer programs can introduce extra operational demands and, in some cases, additional charges.
This calculator could give developers, particularly smaller studios, a clearer way to compare platform and webshop deductions before choosing payment routes. That may influence pricing, revenue planning, and negotiations with providers. Consumers might eventually see different prices or payment options if developers adjust strategies. App store operators and third-party payment firms could face more scrutiny over fee structures. Because the tool is only a rough guide, its practical impact may remain limited unless developers widely adopt and validate it.
