Walkabout Mini Golf Studio Cuts 10 Jobs In Second 2026 Layoff

Mighty Coconut, the developer behind Walkabout Mini Golf, is laying off 10 employees in its second downsizing of 2026. Founder Lucas Martell said the games industry and VR market remain difficult, and that slower growth in VR players has made the studio's previous scale unsustainable. The company plans to keep supporting Walkabout with less frequent courses while developing new titles.
Mighty Coconut’s latest reduction affects ten workers, coming after a January round that removed a quarter of its workforce. The studio also increased paid course DLC from $3.99 to $4.99 and limited this year’s course output to six releases, plus a Homestar Runner add-on.
Before the cuts, Mighty Coconut had mapped its course schedule through 2027. It still intends to support Walkabout Mini Golf, develop Walkabout Dungeon Golfer and Grass, and circulate a list connecting departing employees with interested employers.
The layoffs may reduce Walkabout Mini Golf’s content cadence, affecting existing players who rely on regular courses for social play. Ten workers and their families face career disruption, while the wider VR games sector could see further consolidation if player growth remains slow. The studio’s plan to pursue new titles and diversify revenue may offer a template for other small developers, though its success is uncertain.
